Expressions of Interest: Regional Council Appointments

7 Aug 2024

Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Regional Councils are seeking expressions of interest to fill multiple vacancies, with 1 and 3-year roles available.

The ACFE Board is a statutory authority under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (the Act). Its role is to plan and promote adult learning, allocate resources, develop policies and advise the Minister for Skills and TAFE on matters related to adult education in Victoria. The role of Regional Councils is to draw together different expertise and aspects of local knowledge about adult education and skills needs to advise the ACFE Board on the needs of adult education across their region.

The primary role of Regional Councils is to act as an expert advisor to ACFE Board providing strategic advice on issues affecting learners engaged in adult, community and further education programs in the areas listed above. This advice leads to supporting, promoting, and advocating for services within regions that meet local community needs and support adult Victorians who need to build their educational capacity and who are seeking to develop the core skills they need to fully participate in further study, work and life.

  • People with an interest in putting their skill sets, knowledge and networks to good use, including those with experience in industry and business, local government, community services organisations and youth agencies are encouraged to express interest in ACFE Regional Council membership.

  • Regional Council membership should reflect the diversity of local communities, as such expressions of interest are encouraged from all members of the community including women, first-nations people, young people, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

  • There is a range of different ways you can be involved, from 12-month co-option to 3-year Ministerial appointment.

Suitability for appointment

ACFE are looking for people who represent and/or understand:

• the interests and views of individuals and groups who benefit from or use adult community education (Language, Literacy, Numeracy, Digital skills)

• the importance of promoting and advocating for the sector

• the diversity of communities in Victoria
