About Us

The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. The group works in partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and is guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination.


The Koori Justice Unit (KJU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and is primarily responsible for the implementation and coordination of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement (AJA) across Victorian Government and Justice system. The Programs and Implementation Team (PIT) and Strategy, Governance and Coordination Team (SG&C) has oversight of progressing Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja - the fourth phase of the AJA in partnership with the Aboriginal community. The AJA has established extensive Government and Community networks through the Aboriginal Justice Forum (AJF), Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee Network (RAJAC) and the Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees (LAJAC) and relies on them to effectively deliver initiatives including early intervention and prevention programs, diversion initiatives, and rehabilitation and reintegration support.


The KJU have the following short term secondment opportunities for an immediate start, whilst recruitment commences to fill the ongoing vacant roles:

  • VPS5 Senior Policy Officer, Strategy, Governance and Coordination Team – 3 month opportunity

  • VPS5 Senior Projects and Governance Officer, Strategy, Governance and Coordination Team – 3 month opportunity


These are prioritised roles for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
