There are some exciting community events that the Ngarrgu Djerring team will be part of this April, and some important dates to mark in the calendar for the upcoming month. Here’s where you’ll find us!

Treaty in the Park

Date: Sunday, April 12 @ 1pm-5pm

Location: Edinburgh Gardens, Fitzroy North VIC

Our involvement: providing a coffee cart serving fresh drinks for all in attendance on the day.

What the event is about: A day of good food, good company and fun activities, Treaty in the Park marks the last day of voting in the Treaty Elections - and First Peoples will be able to cast their vote and help choose the next generation of leaders who will shape Treaty for Victoria.

Little Food Festival

Date: Wednesday and Thursday, April 15 & 16 @ 10am-4pm

Location: Federation Square, Melbourne VIC

Our involvement: hosting a native ‘touch, taste, smell’ sensory experience, where kids can engage with native foods and plants and learn about their cultural significance in a fun and interactive way. There will be an opportunity to vote for a favourite native food interacted with on the day, which will be used as part of a special menu item at our café.

What the event is about: The Little Food Festival is Australia’s first and only food festival created especially for kids. A free community event, it promotes health, wellbeing and sustainability education, focused on our food systems.

National Walk for Truth

Date: April 19 - May 27

Location: Starting from Victorian Parliament House and finishing at Parliament House Canberra

What the event is about: Everyone is invited to join Travis Lovett, a Kerrupmara Gunditjmara man, former Deputy Chair and Commissioner, Yoorrook Justice Commission and Executive Director of the Centre for Truth Telling and Dialogue, University of Melbourne, for this significant journey. The National Walk for Truth calls on the Federal Government to commit to a national truth-telling process developed in genuine partnership with First Nations peoples.
